WASHINGTON, DC - Hours after being sworn-in by White House Counsel to the President Judge Alberto Gonzalez, the members of the Presidential Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans were honored with a congressional reception hosted on Capitol Hill by House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert.

Over 400 guests from Congress, Hispanic advocacy organizations, public and private sector organizations and community leaders attended the reception, which was co-chaired by a bi-partisan committee of over 40 Congressional Members.

Speaker Hastert thanked the newly sworn-in Commissioners for their commitment to Hispanic education and pledged to work with them to bridge the achievement gap.

Republican Conference Chairman J.C. Watts highlighted the importance of education and the new education reform law "No Child Left Behind."

Speaking on behalf of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, U.S. Representative Ruben Hinojosa of Texas spoke about the commitment of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus to work with the Commission to bridge the achievement gap between Hispanic students and their peers. He also extended a cordial invitation for members of the Commission to visit his predominately Hispanic district in Texas.

Also in attendance were the Honorable Hector Baretto, Small Business Administrator and the Honorable Rosario Marin, U.S. Treasurer.

The event was made possible with the support of Coca-Cola and Texas Instruments.
